The Vasco Group company has been awarded the Carbon Footprint Register, offsetting and CO2 absorption projects label.
On 18 August 2021, In Side Logistics registered its carbon footprint in section a) Carbon footprint and CO2 emission reduction commitments. As a result, it has obtained the right to use the label awarded by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. Ehis seal recognises the company's commitment to the environment and sustainable development.
In this regard, and according to the report presented by In Side Logistics on its carbon footprint in 2020, the company has reduced the average intensity by 58.82% emissions in the three-year period 2018-2020 compared to the three-year period 2017-2019.
What is the registration stamp?
The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge offers companies, institutions and administrations the possibility of registering their carbon footprints in the Carbon Footprint Register, offsetting and carbon dioxide absorption projects. This recognises their participation in calculating, reducing and offsetting their CO2 emissions.
After registration, the organisation is given a certificate of registration and the right to use a seal to certify its participation. This seal shows the year of registration (in the middle) and, around it, the level at which the organisation is placed: whether it only calculates its footprint, whether it also reduces its footprint, or whether it also contributes to offsetting all or part of its footprint.
Requirements for registration
Any entity wishing to register its carbon footprint must take into account a number of requirements:
- Type of carbon footprint: the organisational carbon footprint needs to be calculated, which can be based on the product carbon footprint data if already calculated.
- Minimum Scope: Scope 1 and 2 emissions are required to be registered, with Scope 3 emissions being voluntary (but recommended).
- Time limit: the carbon footprint is calculated over a period of 12 consecutive months.
- External verification: where emissions are Scope 3 or Scope 1 and 2 emissions from non-SMEs or SMEs with process emissions, verification by an independent entity is required.
- Carbon footprint reduction plan: any registration must be accompanied by a reduction plan showing the organisation's commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
Evolution of In Side Logistics' carbon footprint
In Side Logistics has registered its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Scopes 1 and 2.. The former refer to direct GHG emissions (from sources that are controlled by the company): direct emissions from stationary combustion and direct fugitive emissions caused by the release of GHGs in anthropogenic systems. The second refers to indirect GHG emissions from the use of electricity generated by third parties and imported and consumed by the organisation.
The UNE-ISO 14064-1:2019 standard establishes that the unit of measurement for emissions is tonnes of CO2 equivalent. Based on this information, the data for In Side Logistics' activity in 2020 reveals that the total value of its carbon footprint is 0 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
This shows a clear downward trend since the company started calculating its emissions. In 2017 its footprint was 181'99 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, in 2018 it was 95'32 t CO2 eq and in 2019 it was 36'74 t CO2 eq. In this way, the Basque Group company obtains the Reduzco seal, in addition to the Calculo seal.
In Side Logistics reduction plan
The organisation's commitment to sustainable development goes beyond GHG emissions. Even though its carbon footprint impact is zero and a reduction programme would therefore seem unnecessary, In Side Logistics is committed to including possible initiatives to reduce the use of fossil fuels used in vehicles.
These include better management and optimisation of routes and itineraries, using electric vehicles, reviewing the aerodynamics of their fleet, using dry nitrogen to inflate tyres, training their employees in efficient driving techniques, etc.
In short, In Side Logistics maintains and reinforces its commitment to the environment. Its commitment to quality and technology does not leave aside the importance of being an organisation green and sustainable in the long term.
