Lean & Green

The logistics operator takes another step towards achieving the goal set by the Climate Summit to reduce emissions to zero by 2050.

In Side Logistics has achieved the acknowledgement of Lean & Green, Europe's largest collaborative platform focused on sustainability. Specifically, aimed at reducing emissions throughout the supply chain.

The aim of this platform started as an international initiative to help companies from all sectors to minimise their greenhouse gas emissions from logistics activities. The ultimate goal of this project is to achieve on time the targets set at the Paris Climate Summit (COP21) of carbon neutral emissions by 2050.

The Lean & Green programme therefore recognises positive CO2 reduction by companies. These awards are divided into levels of work with quantifiable targets. In Side Logistics, having achieved the emission targets set, has been awarded the Lean & Green award.

Lean & Green, an initiative born in the Netherlands, is now present in 14 countries and has more than 600 member companies throughout Europe. These data position it as the leading community in sustainable logistics at European level.

What are the benefits of ISL being part of the Lean & Green initiative?

Joining the Lean & Green initiative is, according to ISL, a moral and business obligation. Now, more than ever, achieving sustainability-focused goals is a priority. We are living a battle against the clock to stop the environmental crisis. Therefore, being part of this project is a way of collaborating at a European level to achieve zero emissions by 2050.

In addition, being part of the Lean & Green group of companies brings with it the following advantages:

  • Expand the network of contacts: It is a reality that being part of the Lean & Green community offers ISL the opportunity to find and establish contact with other partners who also aim to achieve sustainable logistics.
  • Improving transparency and traceabilitySustainability: Having to define and implement sustainability objectives through an action plan provides transparency and traceability, both for partners and customers.
  • Minimising costsISL, by implementing its action plan, has achieved a minimum reduction of 20% in CO2 emissions. This, in turn, leads to an exponential reduction of its costs.
  • Improving internal collaborationHaving to create an action plan in the first phase requires participation, collaboration and communication between the different departments involved within the company.
  • Increased knowledge transferEach company that joins the Lean & Green community contributes to broadening the exchange and variety of knowledge within it. Multi-company collaboration enhances and activates enriching learning.
  • Gives greater rigourBeing part of Lean & Green and using the official logos are proof of ISL's commitment to sustainability and the success of its action plan. This is a great added value in the market.
  • Increased participation in sectoral eventsAs a member of the Lean & Green community, ISL is guaranteed to be invited to the most important and recognised events in the sector.

How did ISL achieve this award?

Sustainability is already a fundamental part of In Side Logistics' DNA. To achieve the Lean & Green award, the logistics operator had to take the following steps:

  1. First, to participate in the initiative, the company signed a membership agreement. In this way, it officially became a member of the Lean & Green sustainable community.
  2. This agreement established a commitment on the part of ISL. It was focused on reduce their CO2 emissions in at least one 20% within a maximum of 5 years and achieve the First Star.
  3. ISL also developed an action plan to achieve the sustainable goal. In addition, it had to submit its project for validation by an auditing company, which assessed it for quality and feasibility.

In short, ISL is positioned as one of the essential contributors to sustainable logistics. Only with the collaboration of more companies, the sector will be able to achieve the goal set by the Climate Summit: carbon neutral emissions by 2050.
