The installation of solar panels for self-consumption contributes to energy savings and the reduction of CO2 emissions.
In Side Logistics has embarked on a new project for the placement of solar panels for instantaneous self-consumption. This initiative is in line with its sustainability strategy and the fulfilment of the SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Action to combat climate change and its effects).
The aim is that, in the near future, this installation will allow the installation of batteries to accumulate the energy produced in the time slots with the highest solar radiation. In this way, it can be used during the hours of the day when the sun is not shining, contributing to energy savings and more responsible consumption.
The installation has been placed on the roof of its warehouse located in the Valencian town of Ribarroja, Valencia. It has a total of 160 panels distributed in 8 rows, whose surface area occupies a total of 669 m 2 .
The project has been promoted by the general director of In Side LogisticsXabier Azarloza, who has repeatedly demonstrated his high level of awareness of sustainability and renewable energies. It has also been necessary to obtain the approval of the initiative from the owner of the building, with whom an agreement has been established to carry out the project.
Internally, the coordination of the various teams involved was managed by the staff and the maintenance manager.
In Side Logistics' objective in undertaking this initiative is to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. "The energy we have contracted already came from companies with a 100% CO2-free guarantee of origin. However, we wanted to go a step further and generate this energy ourselves, especially since we are located in an area like Valencia, where we have sunshine practically every day of the year," explains Raquel Estíbalez, ISL's operations technician.
This has been one of the main reasons why solar energy has been chosen as a renewable source. It is the most widespread resource and one of the easiest to implement.
In addition to the large amount of daylight, the Valencia office was chosen as the ideal place to carry out the project because it is the company's headquarters and has the largest facilities on which to place the panels.
Once the evolution of the installation has been analysed, consideration will be given to transferring and expanding the initiative to other delegations and sites.
