In Side Logistics is embarking on a new project committed to sustainability: adhering to Lean & Green, AECOC’s international, multi-sector initiative, which is open only to companies committed to reducing emissions from their logistics operations by at least 20% within a maximum of five years.
In addition to this, adhering to this initiative implies “contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050”, Raquel Estíbalez, Quality and Process Engineer at In Side Logistics, has pointed out.
The aim of Lean&Green is, therefore, to promote collaboration between supply chain members in order to achieve iImplement measures that allow for cleaner and more environmentally friendly logistics. Present in Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Switzerland, it has over 500 certified and very powerful companies in the sector.
AECOC plays a role in organising, coordinating, and driving the development of the project in Spain. Thanks to this agent and its support throughout the process, In Side Logistics has been able to become part of Lean&Green. For this logistics operator, the procedures to join it began at the start of 2021. After getting in touch with AECOC and verifying all the necessary documentation, In Side Logistics can say that it is now part of this initiative, which is very positive for the development of its business and its impact on the environment.
For this logistics operator, it was straightforward to meet the necessary requirements to become part of Lean&Green, as it has been years implementing sustainable measures. “Yeah We have an environmental management system that ensures our internal services are carried out as sustainably as possible.. ”Furthermore, we have also been calculating the CO2 emissions caused by the electricity consumption of our facilities and work equipment for 4 years, and implementing action plans to reduce this consumption," stated Raquel Estíbalez..
This environmental commitment, according to Joaquin Prado, Commercial Manager at In Side Logistics, will bring great value to its clients. He states that “although sustainability is still an internal matter today, in the future commitment to the environment will be mandatory.” Furthermore, he emphasizes that when that time comes, “In Side Logistics will be seen as what we are, a provider committed to a consolidated way of working in terms of sustainability.”.
Lean&Green has 50 companies in Spain that are already registered for this sustainable project, and according to Joaquin Prado, “with them we can share experiences and work together so that, all of us, we manage to reduce emissions in the logistics phase of the supply chain.” Although the logistics operator is still in the initial stage, its The objective is to create synergies with your most frequent transport provider, to achieve more sustainable logistics between the two of you.
To bring the idea to reality, different professionals from the In Side Logistics team have been involved. As explained by Raquel Estíbalez, the traffic department obtains the record of transport services carried out in the base year and subsequent years. Then, in the operations department, the emissions are calculated, and, together with management, the plan of actions to be carried out to achieve the set objective is established. Finally, the Quality and Processes Engineer at In Side Logistics states that “although being part of Lean&Green is a great challenge, it is necessary to implement this type of project in the present, in order to achieve better logistics in the future”.
